With a record-setting performance and a double individual champion, the Maui Interscholastic League made its mark in the K. Mark Takai Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Oahu.

Seabury Hall sophomore Jasmine O’Brien set the state mark in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4 minutes, 55.44 seconds. The record had been 4:56.29, by Mid-Pacific’s Rebecca Walton in 2015.

Maui Prep junior Kysha Altura won the 100 butterfly in 56.39 — a hundredth of a second ahead of Lahainaluna’s Lexi Anderson — and took the 200 free-style title in 1:50.92. O’Brien was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.37.

Baldwin had the top team finish among MIL schools, tying with Kamehameha Kapalama for third in the girls standings with 19 points. Punahou won with 88.

Baldwin’s Rebecca Buenrostro-Gallimore was second in two events — the 50 freestyle (24.27) and 100 backstroke

(57.54) — and was on relay teams that placed third (200 medley) and fifth (400 free).

O’Brien was on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay team, and Altura helped Maui Prep finish seventh. Na Pueo and the Spartans tied for fifth in the team scoring with 12 points.

The lone MIL individual to reach a boys final was Lahainaluna’s Jared Gaastra, who was third in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

King Kekaulike’s Aniston Eyre was third in the girls 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 free. Baldwin’s Kaimilani Matsumoto was fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 50 free, and was on the Bears’ two relay teams to reach the finals.

Anderson placed sixth in the 200 individual medley and helped Lahainaluna finish seventh in the 400 freestyle relay. Seabury Hall’s Skylar Lickle was seventh in diving.
